Higher Education Analytics Community Conference:  The Higher Education Analytics Community held its fifth annual conference on Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 at the Wilfrid Laurier University. Presentations and discussions included the modern analytics architecture, Cognos Analytics, as well as break out discussions where you can gain valuable knowledge to help you on your analytics journey!

The Future of Analytics Architecture Webinar: This webinar was held on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at 2pm ET, and shared an overview of how the changes in the analytic landscape could be leveraged at your institutions. This webinar included an overview of the new analytics technologies, the use cases of each of these technologies in the context of existing analytics architecture and key points to consider in your own analytics journey!

Master Data Management for Higher Education Webinar: This webinar was held on Wednesday, December 13th and shared an overview of Data Management that was specifically designed for those in higher education. Our IBM Information Integration and Governance Specialist David Ma was able to share what Master Data Management is, why it’s important and how institutions can benefit from it.

Higher Education Analytics Community Conference:  The Higher Education Analytics Community held its fourth annual conference on Wednesday, July 12th, 2017 at the Kitchener campus of Conestoga College. Presentations and discussions included best practices with Cognos Analytics, SPSS, Watson Analytics, and Data Governance in Post-Secondary Education.

SPSS at Georgian College Webinar: This webinar held on March 8th, 2017 shared an overview of how a College Research Specialist leveraged IBM's SPSS for a project focused on course metrics, scheduling, and delivery types. The presenter, Tamara Hammond, Research and Statistics Specialist from Georgian College's Institutional Research shared interesting correlations, what worked well and where having others to collaborate with would have been beneficial.

IBM Watson Analytics for Social Media Webinar:  This webinar held on Thursday, October 13, 2016, led by Khush Gill, IBM Watson Analytics Evangelist, demonstrated how IBM Watson Analytics for Social Media can help your institution measure student sentiment, evaluate trends, gauge reactions to a program and determine the effectiveness of marketing campaigns using visualizations.

Higher Education Analytics Community Conference:  The Higher Education Analytics Community held its third annual conference on June 1, 2016, at the Kitchener (Doon) campus of Conestoga College.  Presentations and discussions included big data, optimizing and integrating multiple analytic and BI tools and data management in Post-Secondary Education.

Enrolment Planning Webinar:  This demonstration presented on Wednesday, January 27 showed how IBM Cognos TM1 can be used for Enrolment and Tuition Projections. We started with Actuals and projected Enrolment by Term, Program, Undergrad/Grad, Canadian/International Students as well as showed the adjustments that can be made to the Enrolment Projections.  Using these Enrolment Projections, we then projected the Tuition across the same dimensions with and without a tuition increase assumption.  We also included a demonstration on operational and workforce planning in educational organizations using IBM Cognos TM1.

Data Management in Ontario Higher Education Webinar:  This webinar held on Friday, Oct 23 presented by the University of Waterloo discussed legislation, the Information and Privacy Commissioner's Design Principles, and Data Management in general.  Topics included Data Management at the University of Waterloo, some of Waterloo's strengths and weaknesses as a federated organization, the opportunities and threats we see on the horizon and the variety of tools in use at Waterloo today and how we see their use growing and changing over time.

Higher Education Analytics Community Conference:  The Higher Education Analytics Community held its second conference in Markham on May 28, 2015.  IBM and Newcomp provided the speakers for the day.  Topics included social media analytics, best practices in report visualizations, best practices for mobile reporting, budgeting and planning for higher education, a predictive analytics demonstration, case studies in student retention and student segmentation, AODA compliance (specific to IBM products) and data governance.

Predicting Student Retention with Mohawk College Webinar:  This webinar, held on Feb 20, 2015, presented by Mohawk College and Newcomp provided information about how Mohawk College uses IBM SPSS to better predict Student Retention at the point of entry.  Topics covered included how to understand the predictive process, how to know what data is relevant, how to know how confident you can be with your results and what Mohawk is doing with this new information.

Best Practice Report Templates Webinar:  Have you been attempting to create new reports and wonder what some of the best practice dashboards and reports look like for universities and colleges? On Oct 16 and Dec 18, 2014, Newcomp presented the results of the Report Template Project that was commissioned earlier this year by the Higher Education Analytics Community.  The purpose of this project was to develop reports based on best practices and industry research. These reports and dashboards allow for timely, informed decisions using existing or new data in key areas across a broad range of responsibility groups. Reporting examples included student and faculty reporting, financial reporting and security considerations.

Best Practices in Analytics Webinar:  Are you just starting on the journey into analytics for your institution?  Are you at the early stages of trying to figure out how to set up and manage your data structure, what tools to use and what capabilities and organizational structures will be helpful in your institution?  The Higher Education Analytics Community arranged for Cyrulean Inc to assist in the research of analytics best practices in other industries and within the post-secondary educational sector. The contractors from Cyrulean Inc canvassed a number of Ontario post-secondary institutions as well as institutions in other industries to help answer these questions. Cyrulean Inc presented the results on June 20, 2014.

Cognos 10 Conference:  Are you interested in learning more about Cognos 10?  The Higher Education Analytics Community held its first conference at Bingeman Park in Kitchener on March 25, 2014 to provide sector specific training on Cognos 10 related topics.  IBM and Newcomp provided the speakers for the day. Seventy five of Ontario's college and university analytics professionals attended.  Topics included how others involved with post-secondary education use Cognos, best practices in gathering report requirements, best practices in Cognos dashboard and report design, meta data management and data governance and advanced predictive analytics.
